During my time teaching in an outdoor classroom at Arden Forest School, we focused on creating art with natural materials and found objects. We created intension stones while learning about painting on natural elements. We studied the cultural aspects to mandalas and created our own while discussing impermanence. We created landscapes out of charcoal from the school fire pit and so many more projects.
While I was teaching at the Creative Art Place we focused on fine art skills with traditional materials, but there was still plenty of room for creative expression through mixed media. There were plenty of drawings and paintings created, but we also made jelly fish out of clay and yarn. We crafted gingerbread house villages out of cardboard. I had one student want to paint shoes so we did that during a private lesson! The inspiration and creativity is endless when you get to work with children.
